អរគុណ Cambodia

Our last few months in Cambodia had some ups and downs. Cambodia’s first real surge of cases kept us in Phnom Penh (and eventually in our apartment). It meant that we didn’t get in any trips to the coast or the mountains, but we got to explore Phnom Penh and Kandal, and spend lots of time with friends and (te)quila the kitty.

The year kicked off with lots of running and biking, especially as travel around Cambodia was restricted. Sometimes, we would run to the bakery for breakfast.

We discovered the countryside immediately around Phnom Penh on long bike rides, and also discovered how fun cycling is!

Kis got to go down to one of the Okra sites to show Cambodia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy the work we have been up to.

As the lockdown intensified, we hung out with Quila, cooked lots (including a coal BBQ and baking powder-free pancakes, which were super fluffy and tasted like meringue), and scoured Phnom Penh for groceries.

In the last week, lockdown eased a little so we did our final Cambodian adventure, a climbing day in Chilea.

We’ve been lucky to make some great friends in Cambodia, and to get to live in a beautiful country. Cambodia will remain in our hearts and minds (after all, we still have Okra projects here!), and we hope to come back soon.

In the meantime, we can’t wait to visit family and friends in North America, and to rediscover Montreal!
